Steps to make the BEST Honey Garlic Chicken

Tips for Making Honey Garlic Chicken

The best part of this recipe (besides how tasty it is!) is that the whole dish is made in just one pan. It is easy as promised, but I am going to walk through a few tips with you to answer any questions that may come up along the way!

  1. Mix the chicken broth, honey, garlic, salt and pepper together with a whisk until the honey is dissolved and everything is evenly combined.

    • You can do this right in the container you will marinate the chicken in to save dishes!
  2. Cut the chicken breasts in half lengthwise so they are half the thickness (butterfly.)

Place them in a covered container or zip top bag and pour the honey mixture over them to coat.  Let rest in the refrigerator for 10-15 minutes.

    • This is a very important step!  Make sure that you cut your chicken breasts in half or so that they are no thicker than 1/2 inch thick.

Since we are cooking the chicken completely in a pan, it will need to be on the thin side so that it will cook evenly and all the way through.

    • Let the chicken marinate for around 15 minutes. You can use this time to start your side dish.
  3. Heat the olive oil over high in a large skillet.  Use tongs, to place the chicken breasts in a single layer on the skillet and cook for 4-5 minutes.

If there is not enough room to do a single layer, cook the chicken in 2 separate batches so they do not overlap.

Flip each chicken breast over and continue to cook for 2-3 minutes until there is a sear on the bottom, then pour the remaining honey mixture into the pan and bring to a boil and let cook for an additional 3-4 minutes or until the sauce starts to thicken.

    • Make sure the oil is hot when you start. since this will help the chicken to get that beautiful (and tasty) golden coating on the outside.
    • You will want to cook the chicken until it is just done. Over cooking the chicken will make it tough and/or dry. It doesn't take long with thin chicken breasts!
    • Boiling the sauce down creates the delicious honey coating packed with flavor!  You can cook it until get gets to the thickness you want. It will also continue to thicken a bit as it cools.
